Alateen
Alateen is a fellowship of young Al-Anon members, usually 12 to 21 years old, whose lives have been affected by someone's else's drinking. In Southern California you can also find young Alateen meetings usually for Al-Anon members aged 6 to 12.
To find Alateen meetings near you, go to the Meeting Information page and follow a link to the Al-Anon website nearest you.
Alateen interests are represented by the Alateen Sponsor Coordinator, the Alateen Process Person, and the Alateen Coordinator all of whom serve on the Area World Service Board. You can contact any of the board members with questions or concerns using the Contact Us page.
Are you an Al-Anon member interested in being of service to Alateen? We are always in need of Alateen sponsors who's primary purpose is to host Alateen meetings and ensure the Alateen members have a safe environment to conduct a meeting. To become an certified sponsor, download the application package, review the eligiblity requirements, and submit your paperwork to your District Representative to start the certification process.
The current Al-Anon Members Involved in Alateen Service (AMIAS) application packet is being revised and expanded to more clearly state the eligibility requirements for members seeking to become certified Alateen Sponsors. The proposed changes modify, expand and clarify the previously documented requirements, processes and procedures followed in the Southern California Area.
A draft version of the proposed update is available here for your review. A brief summary of the changes and the reasons for updating the document is available here. The current application package and requirements are available for comparison via the "application package" link above.
The proposed update was scheduled for discussion / vote at the November 2011 Assembly meeting; however, the election of the board members for the new panel took longer than expected leaving insufficient time for the AMIAS discussion. The proposed revision was tabled and will be passed on the the new panel.
A Blog topic has been established to continue the discussion of the draft AMAIS requirements and application packet. Join in on the discussion by clicking here.
